IC 27: Real World Memes

There’s a statue in the middle of London of a shirtless Jeff Goldblum, and of course someone’s complaining about it online. Do memes belong in the real world, or should they stay on the Internet? The DC Cinematic Universe keeps trying without much success. In What We’re Playing/Watching This Week, Randolf’s spent hours on a quirky JRPG, while Michael has gotten around to finishing Stranger Things. GIBI features even more trailers (for good things this time), and some cool webcomics.

IC 26: Westworld, MMORPGs, and Nightmare Comedy

Was Westworld Season 2 actually any good? Michael and Randolf discuss (with spoilers) the show’s pacing and compare it to other premium TV dramas. Plus, Randolf does a deep dive into a Final Fantasy MMORPG, Michael is stressing out over Darkest Dungeon, and we’ve found some surreal and adorable subreddits for Good Internet, Best Internet.

IC 25: Roguelike Games 101

For our 25th episode, we’re talking all about gaming. We discuss What We’re Playing This Week, including a game that got looked over because of Breath of the Wild. Then, we discuss roguelike games. What’s with these super tough, unforgiving games, and what are some of the best examples of the genre? Randolf walks Michael through the history of the genre and talks about why gamers should give them a shot. Finally, GIBI features dancing in movies, Russians smuggling an American cadet, and Mister Rogers.

IC 24: Parenting and Flamethrowers

Plenty of media outlets have been paying attention to Elon Musk for his antics with flamethrowers. Is he trying to avoid scrutiny of Tesla? Randolf’s found a blogger who found a bug in a 17-year-old game after a full year of sleuthing. Kingdom Hearts lets us down, what we’re playing this week, plus a renamed Good Internet, Best Internet with Mario Kart and bad parenting skills.

IC 22: How Far Down Does This Subreddit Go?

A new study says that Americans, especially young people, are lonely. But what can we really take away from these findings? We find some utterly fantastic ASCII art, a discussion of games much-anticipated and not so anticipated, and GIBI features a grab bag of subreddits that are incredible and/or horrifying.

IC 21: Fighting the YouTube Algorithm

A discussion of the premiere of Westworld Season 2. Buzzfeed has an utterly bizarre story out that involves Jordan Peele and reminds us of a technology we’ve discussed previously. Randolf’s deep in JRPGs, both of us have tried PUBG Mobile and have very different takeaways, and Good Internet, Bad Internet has a subreddit that’s the trash heap of the Internet.

IC 20: A Starship of Chameleons

A look at a crazy Google Glass-like invention that purports to understand a person’s inner monologue. We have yet another conversation about Facebook, with Zuckerberg’s Messenger history in the news. Michael’s playing a more casual survival game, PUBG throws the book at some imitators, and in Good Internet, Bad Internet, Randolf shares a truly awesome set of Japanese gum commercials.

Michael and Randolf dive into the complex story of Cambridge Analytica and Facebook, and what a “good” social network should be. They also discuss Randolf’s “new” gaming system, a spectrum of battle royale games, and Michael finally has tried Breath of the Wild. Plus GIBI sees a cute school project, possible deepfakes, memes in the wild, and more.

There’s a lot of weird stuff in this one. Michael and Randolf discuss the DeepFake trend on Reddit that has been in the news. A spoiler-free preview of Star Wars The Last Jedi (AKA Michael and Randolf make a bunch of guesses about the movie), and an episode reviewing the year that was 2017. We look at Reddit novelty accounts gone by, what’s happened in podcasting, and our favorite games of the past year. We also replace Good Internet, Bad Internet with a superlative Best Internet, Worst Internet. We hope you all enjoy and we’ll see you in 2018!
